Phyllis Elaine Galley, a lifetime resident of Nucla, died Wednesday, September 25, 1996 at her residence. She was 56.
A memorial service was held September 29 at Nucla High School, with Reverend Leroy Kohl officiating. Funeral services with rite conducted by the Bethany Chapter 148 of the Order of the Eastern Star followed. Burial was held at the Nucla Cemetery.
Phyllis was born March 31, 1940 in Nucla to Stanley and Viola Rice Graybeal. She spent her childhood there, graduating from Nucla High School. She attended Western State College in Gunnison.
On March 9, 1969, Phyllis married John A. "Buck" Galley in Nucla. He survives.
Formerly, Phyllis was a computer operator for San Miguel Power Association in Nucla. She belonged to the Bethany Chapter 148 OES. She was also a former member of the Nucla High School Quarterback Clum and the West End Livestock Association.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading. While her children were in high school and college, she liked to travel to their ball games. She made afghans for fund raisers and also as gifts for her family and friends.
Phyllis loved her family, and was always very proud of her children's accomplishments. She had a kind, giving spirit and was eager to help those around her. She will be greatly missed, not only by her family but by the multitude of people within her community whose lives she touched.
In additions to her husband, Buck, Phyllis is survived by her mother, Viola Graybeal of Nucla; a son, Stanley John, of Grand Junction; daughters, Jerri Lynn (Glen) Hubbard and Debra Elaine (Clint) Wytulka, both of Grand Junction; brothers Frank and Wayne (Laurie) Graybeal, of Nucla; sisters, Susie (Gene) Carver of Denver, June (Joe) McCoy of Grand Junction, and Mary Anna (Don) Cortner of Alvin, Texas; grandchildren, Kevin and Jamie Hubbard, of Grand Junction; her mother-in-law, Margaret Galley of Grand Junction; numberouse nieces and nephews she helped to raise, several aunts, uncles, cousins.
She was proceeded in death by her father, Stanley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contriubtions can be made to the Nucla-Naturita Ambulance Service Fund.
