High Point - Mrs. Annie Groome Donald, 96, of Maryfield Nursing Home died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at the home.
She was born Jan. 19, 1904, in Groometown, a daughter of Zachariah L. and Minnie Armfield Groome. She graduated from Greensboro College with a degree in science and mathematics. She was a laboratory technician at Trinity College (Duke University). She later taught chemistry and math in the Greensboro school system for more than 35 years. She was a native of Guilford County and a former member of Groometown United Methodist Church. She later was a member of W. Market St. United Methodist Church, Greensboro.
Prior to moving to High Point, she resided at 1803 Madison Ave., Greensboro. In 1924, she married William Blanton Donald of Richmond, Va., who preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1966. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs.. Jessie Phillips and Mrs. Nell Cline; and five brothers, Percy Groome, Dr. Jim Groome, Wilbur Groome, Houston Groome and Charles Groome.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Harold L. (Peggy) Amos of 1004 Country Club Drive; a son, Dr. William Blanton Donald Jr. and his wife, Mona, of 815 Hillcrest Drive; seven grandchildren, Mrs. Ronald Shealy, Mrs. Maurice Scott Smothers Hull, Harold Lindsay Amos Jr., Mrs. Ray Barbour Jr. and Mrs. James Buckthal, Mrs. Frank Webster and William B. Donald; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Mary Ruth) Coble of Burlington and Mrs. Stanley (Jane) Lowe of Cleveland, Tenn.; and a brother, A. Bryan Groome and his wife, Helen, of Groometown.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today in Groometown United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Charles Morton. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point, until the hour of service.
