A Memorial Service and a Celebration of Life will be held in the Paradise Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2007. ED was born in Baltimore MD and attended Baltimore schools. He enlisted in the Navy in 1941, where he "qualified" to join the U.S. Submarine Service. During WW II he was Machinist Mate First Class aboard the U.S.S. Besugo 321. After the war he worked at U.S. Motors and Pitney Bowes. One of Ed's hobbies was designing cross bows and he had a patent on a Pistol Cross Bow. Ed was known by everyone for his great sense of humor. Ed was a member of the V.F.W. and The U.S. Submarine Veterans. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow Submariners and helped establish the Cuttlefish Base in Anderson, CA. During the past 2 years Ed has enjoyed writing an autobiographical book about his childhood and his years in the Navy "Submarine Sailor-198 Depth Charges and His Faith." He is preceded in death by his first wife Ida and 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Ed is survived by one son Patrick and his wife Essie in CN, one daughter Kathy Leopold in FL; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Ed and Iris Niemeyer were married in 1995 and have enjoyed traveling. Ed has 4 stepchildren and their spouses, 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. He has one surviving sister Jeanette Grindell in Baltimore. Ed's ashes will be placed in Skyway memorial Park in Magalia, CA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ed's name to The Hospice House of Paradise or to Paradise Lutheran Church.
