Ada Belle Ferguson Laird was born in Russell (now Lee) County, Alabama to Daniel A. McDougald Ferguson and Sarah C. Flake. Her father "Mack" died in 1870 and Ada Belle and her sister, Katherine McDougald Ferguson, were raised by their mother with her maternal and paternal relatives living nearby.

On October 14, 1889 at the age of twenty, she married John Parry Laird at the Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Georgia, where they made their home and raised their family.

To their union were born four children:

Arthur McDougald Laird
John Parry Laird, Jr.
Greene Flake Laird
Douglas Laird

Ada Belle Ferguson Laird was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three of her four sons. She lived her last days with her son, Greene Flake "Red" Laird and his wife, Naomi, at their home in Blacksburg, Virginia.
