Beckman, Lawrence B. 83, of Shelby, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2005 in Muskegon. He was born October 13, 1921 in Shelby, the son of Jesse and Emma (Willick) Beckman. He married Irene Wieman on April 4, 1945 in Louisville, Kentucky. Mr. Beckman was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran. After the war, he and his brothers, Jesse and Bob started Beckman Brothers, a road construction and excavating business with one truck and a shovel. He was a lifelong resident of Shelby. Lawrence was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Irene; his children, Rod (Traci) Beckman of Ludington, Bill (Laurie) Beckman of Shelby, Linda (Bob) Gosselin of Whitehall, and Tom (Jodi) Beckman of Shelby; grandchildren, Jamie (Sara) Beckman of Dallas, Derek Beckman of Los Angeles, Lance and Jordan Gosselin both of Whitehall, Kendra Beckman of Grand Rapids, and Kevin Beckman of Shelby; brothers, Jesse Beckman and Lavern (Beatrice) Beckman; and sister, Marguerite Reames all of Shelby. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laurel in 1954; his father, Jesse in 1930; and mother, Emma in 1984. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ernol, Bob and Floyd Beckman. Visitation is Friday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby with a Scripture Service on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass for Mr. Beckman will be held Saturday, April 30, 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Shelby with Father Phillip Witkowski as Celebrant.
