Mary Elizabeth "Mary Lib" Arnold Basso, 91, died Thursday, January 13, 2011, at a local medical center.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Highway 277 South, with Doug Stenberg officiating. Burial will follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mary Elizabeth "Mary Lib" was born January 29, 1919 to Ruth Christine (Florida) and Clifford B. Arnold in Lascassas, Tennessee. She came from a large family and loved every one of them. Mary attended Central High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and graduated from Middle Tennessee St. Teachers College in Murfreesboro in May 1938. She married Dominick Basso on September 14, 1946 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Mary traveled to England, Europe, and Maracoo, taking many picture and ending up with loads of photo albums and scrap books. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and yard work. Mary made over 100 afghans for her many loved ones and gave them for special occasions. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
The family would like to express a very special thank you to Wisteria Place and Dr. Bargainer for the wonderful care that was given to Mary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Angela Fannin; one brother, Clifford Arnold, Jr.; and one sister, Patricia Powell.
Survivors include a son, Clifford Basso; a daughter, Beth Butler; a brother, Thomas Arnold; five sisters, Alice Cook, Madge Barrett, Annie Harper, Janie Blair, and Dorothy Morris; four grandchildren, J.C. Butler, Misty Petty, Carinda Bastin, and Christopher Basso; three great-grandchildren, Tylor Hutchinson, Austin Petty, and Ainsley Bastin; twenty-seven nieces and nephews; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; a host of great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
