My Grandma, Millie, was a native of Axtell, Nebraskas, was the mother of 22 children (21 are accounted for). She was having babies from 1902-1926, having a child nearly every year. She was a hard working, stern woman.

Millie died from injuries caused by an auto accident that killed her husband instantly and injuring her young daughter, Bernadine. Millie died about 6 hours after the accident. Nearly every bone in her body was broken, her lungs & stomach were punctured. She pulled herself from the wreck, dragging herself to her husband's side. He died on impact. As she was being transported to the hospital, she kept calling for her youngest child, Carl (age 12). He was brought to the hospital by his older sister, Candis. While at the hospital, Millie kept asking for water. Doctors and nurses refused her this. Carl granted his mother her need for water. Carl told the doctors "I had to give my momma a drink to help her." She died soon after.

Millie was a large, stout woman. She stood 6'3" and weighed 283# at her death. She was 3" taller, 3# heavier and 3 months older than husband Ira.
