Services for John Hayley were held in the Methodist Church in Megargel, Texas. The Masons had their last rites in the Seymour Cemetery. John Robert Hayley was born near Covington, in Hill County. At the age of 16 months, he moved to Baylor County with his parents for a few months, then the family moved to Parker County. They returned to Baylor County on 29 August 1890. The father and mother died in Seymour. John used to make many trips from his home in Megargel, just to spend a little while with his mother. After growing up in Seymour and attending the Seymour schools he married Miss Alma Tyson of Seymour. Two children were born into this union - Robert Tyson Hayley and Mrs. Mary Alma Wilson. In 1902, Mr. and Mrs. Hayley moved to Dundee where John was station agent for the Wichita Valley Railroad and manager of the W.C. Bowman Lumber Company. His wife's health began to fail and the family returned to Seymour in early 1920. She preceded him in death. Mr. Hayley moved to Megargel in 1924 where he was in the grocery business until 1943 when he sold out due to his failing health. He was married in Megargel to Mrs. Lora Garrison who survives him. When he sold his store in Megargel, the couple moved to Archer City where he worked at a lumber yard. Survivors include his two children; two grandchildren; three brothers; two sisters. He was converted and belonged to the First Christian Church for a number of years but later in his life, he became a member of the Methodist Church. He was active in civic affairs and was secretary of the Megargel Chamber of Commerce for several years. He was a member of the Megargel Masonic Lodge and served as secretary for the lodge for a considerable period of his life. John Hayley was loyal to his friends and his convictions.
