Father: Carl Friederich Wilhelm Pohlmann (William Pohlman, Sr.)

OBITUARY:
Mrs. Johanna Friederika Louisa Kurkamp, nee Pohlman, was born on September 3, 1825, in Harford, Obernbauerschaft, Westfalen, Germany. When quite young she came to America with her parents and lived in Baltimore, Maryland, for a short time when they moved to York, Pa., where her father died. On February 2, 1851, she was married to Mr. William Kurkamp. This union was blessed with eleven children, of which two sons and one daughter preceded her to the spirit world. In 1854 they moved, accompanied by her mother, to Illinois, and located upon a farm in Jackson township, Will county, where her mother died. In 1892, they retired to their home in Manhattan where they lived until her departure on Friday, October 13, 1899, at about 4 p.m. She arrived to an age of 74 years, 1 month and 10 days. She was a sufferer for many years from asthma, which resulted in death. Two brothers also preceded her in death - William Pohlman who died in Jackson township in 1894, and Henry Pohlman, 1st Lieutenant during the civil war, who died in Libby prison. Those remaining to mourn her departure are: Her husband, three sons, Wm. T., Henry W., Frank E., and five daughters, Mary Amelia, (now Mrs. E. Long); Amelia M., (Mrs. Seltzer); Ella J., (Mrs. Frank Lichtenwalter); Anna L. (Mrs. Albert Meyers); Laura A.., (Mrs. Jacob Meyers, Hinckley, Ill.). One brother, Fred Pohlman, of California, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Kreimier: 29 grandchildren and many friends...The obsequies took on Sunday afternoon at the North Ridge church. A large gathering of friends were present to take part in the last sad rites...Her pastor, F. W. Landwer, officiated, choosing as the basis of his remarks at the home the last clause of 1 Sam. 20:18, and at the church, 2 Cor. 5:11. The singing by a choir consisting of members of Grace church, Prov. Ridge and of Salem church, Manhattan, was excellent. Thus another pilgrim has ended her journey.
