RICHARD P. "DICK" KISSANE, 75, a Mansfield tailor for many years and a leader in Masonic Lodge activities, died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the home of his son-in-law near West Salem after a brief illness.

A native of Ashland where he was born on Washington's birthday, 1869. Mr. Kissane had lived in recent years at the home of E.T.S. Cliffe, 287 West Fourth Street, and shortly before his death went to West Salem to be with his son-in-law, Miles Hines.

The son of P.T. Kissane, a Civil War veteran and a resident of Mansfield for a number of years, Mr. Kissane got his start as a newsboy when he was 16. He sold the first copy of the Mansfield News when the paper founded in March, 1885. When he was about 19, Mr. Kissane opened a newsstand and stationary store, but it was destroyed by a fire a short time later, and he decided to learn the tailoring trade. He established a merchant tailor shop in the city in the 1880's and was in the business here for nearly 50 years. He was one of the best-known tailors in the North Central Ohio, and some of this area's most prominent men were his customers. For years his shop was located in the Bird Building on North Main Street. Mr. Kissane was a member of the First Christian Church and a number of Masonic Orders, including Venus lodge, No. 152, F. and A.M.; Mansfield Chapter No. 28, Royal Arch Masons; Mansfield Council No. 94, Royal and Select Masters, and Mansfield Commandery No. 21, Knights Templar.

Surviving are one son, Dr. R.W. Kissane of Columbus; three sisters, Miss Capitola Kissane of Mansfield, Mrs. Margaret Parker, Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Jeanette Brown, Lucas, and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Kissane and two daughters died several years ago. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Finefrock Funeral Home with Rev. B.F. Hagelbarger, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
