James "Jim" (Red) Berry
BORN: August 29, 1933
DIED: January 12, 2011
LOCATION: Georgetown, TX

Jim passed away peacefully on the morning of January 12, 2011. He was born in Austin, Texas, on August 29, 1933, the only child of Gladys and Benny Berry. He graduated from Austin High School and attended Texas A&M University. He was a proud army veteran, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Onion Creek, an avid motorcyclist, and most of all, a devoted husband, father, and Papaw to his nine grandchildren.

Jim spent a lifetime working with people. He owned his own business for many years in Austin which eventually led to a successful career in automobile sales. He retired as the manager of the Used Car department at Don Hewlett Chevrolet in Georgetown in 1998. He was well known by many as "Red" for his bright red hair. Red was so memorable to people, that he could not go anywhere without seeing someone he knew, and was often heard calling them "Hoss" since he just couldn't remember the names of the hundreds of people he had met and done business with over the years. He touched many lives and will be remembered for his loyalty, his warmth, his love, and his sense of humor. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Zerifia, and his sons Scott Berry of San Antonio, Jason Berry of Austin, and his daughters Diana Whiteside and husband Don of Round Rock, and Karen Griffin and husband Ed of Brentwood, Tn. Nine grandchildren include Daniel and Dara Whiteside; Jacob, George, and Caroline Griffin; and Ciara, Allison, Sean, and Elizabeth Berry. Jim loved and was dedicated to his family and friends.

Visitation hours are 6-8 PM on Sunday, January 16, at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown, Tx. Services will be held on Monday, January 17 at 10 AM in the Chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home, followed by interment at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Tx.

The family wishes to thank Scott & White Hospice for its loving care, especially Marie and Cheryl. Many thanks also to our visiting angel, Fred.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

The family invites you to leave a message or memory in the Memorial Guestbook at www.ramseyfuneral.com.
