Mrs. Leona E. Herrin, 95, died Friday night (January 14, 2011) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities after an extended illness.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Waycross. She was a homemaker and member of Crawford Street Baptist Church.

She is the daughter of the late Keightly Strickland and Julie Douglas Strickland. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Earl H. Herrin; and one daughter, Martha Jeanette Cox.

Survivors include one daughter, Charlotte Strickland (husband Carl) of Waycross; five grandchildren, Steve Petty (Jan), Carl Petty (Paula) and Cindy Payne all of Waycross, Sonya Dakin (Dave) of Jacksonville, FL, and Dana Sims (Bobby) of Blackshear; five great grandchildren; one sister, Willa Mae Beverly of Waycross; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday (January 17, 2011) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 10 until 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
