Thomas J. Modgling, born May 24, 1861, son of Elijah "Lige" Modgling and Ann Permelia (Johnson) Modgling, was 19 years old when he married Jennie Belle Bolt, daughter of Jim, William James Bolt and Lavinia (Watts) Bolt, September 29, 1880 in Mason County, Texas.

Tom Modgling and Jennie Belle (Bolt) Modgling had two children; Cynthia Elizabeth Modgling born May 5, 1881 and Claude, Claudius Modgling born May 5, 1884.

Tom and Jennie Belle separated and she took the children away to live in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas. Tom sued Jennie Belle for divorce but the case was dismissed because Jennie Belle could not be located. Tom's troubles seem only to have started as that sme year he and his brother William were each charged with the theft of a horse. Bothe cases were dismissed and Tom paid a fine of $30. That same year he was arrested for "working on Sunday."

May 10, 1885, Jennie Belle married George Hinton, a soldier at Fort Concho, Tom Green County, Texas. They had one son, Charles Hinton, born February 23, 1886. That same year, Hinton took Jennie Belle and the three children to Fort Duschene, Uintah County, Utah. Jennie Belle is said to have died there in 1887 at the age of 23. She was buried at the military cemetery. When Fort Duschene was abandoned by the military at the turn of the century, her son, Claude claimed her remains and she was reburied at Vernal Memorial Cemetery in Vernal, Uintah County, Utah.

After Jennie Belle's death, George Hinton gave the three children to two Mormon families who raised them as their own. The children were never adopted. Claude was very young when his stepfather abandoned him to be raised by these Mormons, and he could not recall the correct spelling of his given last name, Modgling. So he spelled the name "Marglon", and it has been misspelled by generations of offspring ever since. Claude Marglon married Cora Jane Peters, August 1, 1906 in Vernal, Utah. Seven children were born to this union. Lawrence, my father, Louis, Grace, Earl, Claude Jr., and Fay, all born in Utah, and Leah was born in California, where all the descendents of Jennie Belle Bolt's son Claudius still reside.

Winn was the last name of the family that took Cynthia and Claude in. Cynthia later married Mr. Winn.
