TEXAS CRASH

Jess A. Melton, well-known Carlsbad businessman, met death yesterday near Breckenridge, Tex., when the car which he was driving failed to make a turn on a rain-slick pavement and crashed into a gully.

Melton, who lived at 308 North Main, was returning to Carlsbad after a visit with relatives in Louisiana. The accident occurred about noon yesterday.

Manager of the Horace Hubert Station on North Canal, Melton formerly was associated as a partner in the Jay's Firestone business.

Funeral services are under direction of West Funeral Home. Services will be held tomorrow at First Baptist Church with the Rev. J. Melvin Ray of First Baptist Church officiating and burial following in Carlsbad Cemetery. A Masonic service at graveside is planned.

Born Dec. 9, 1907, in Ruston, La., Melton was a member of the Baptist Church, the American Legion, the Carlsbad Masonic Lodge and the Shrine.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen B. Melton; three brothers, Harvey, Hervy and John Melton of Louisiana; and four sisters, Mrs. Lorelle D. Leach of Shreveport, La., Mrs. Tom Kilgore of Monroe, La., Mrs. Eloise Starr of Minden, La., and Mrs. Joe Miller of Buckeye, La.
