David Baillie Baird was born in Scotland in 1858, and came to America in 1871 with his parents, four brothers and three sisters. The family first settled in Lonaconing, Maryland where the brothers worked in the coal mines. In 1879, David joined his brothers George and James in farming their homesteads in Graham County, northwestern Kansas. On 25 Nov 1886, David married Louella Hubbard and on 29 Jul 1887, his brother George married Louella's sister Alice Hubbard. Two brothers married two sisters. About 1910, David and Louella relocated to Toledo, Lincoln County, Oregon where David found work at the saw mill. Their daughters Ella and Gertrude came to Lincoln County from Kansas in 1911 to teach school. Their son, Paul Baird, also settled here. Paul, Gertrude and Ella eventually married and raised families in Lincoln County. They are buried nearby at Eureka Cemetery.
