Valrie Griffis Jones, 86 of Odum, Ga. died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011 in Wayne Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. The Wayne County, Ga. native was a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church, the Beatrice Ammons Sunday School Class, and the Benn Gibbs Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She was retired from Manhattan Shirt Factory and she was an Odum School Cafeteria worker. She is most known for her love of cake baking. Henry Hazel Jones, her husband, preceded her in death along with a daughter: Joann Carter; sisters: Vinnie Graham and Leottie Thornton; brothers: Raymond Griffis and Curtis Griffis.

Survivors are a daughter: Janice (Mickey) Daniels of Odum, Ga.; sons: Jimmy (Joan) Jones of Odum, Ga., Jerry (Shelia) Jones of Jesup, Ga.; sisters: Ruth Devereaux of Callahan, Fla., Evon Byrge of Savannah, Ga., Linda Kimbrell of Mershon, Ga., Lydia Hart of Mineral, Va., Roxie Litton of Baxley, Ga. Kathryn Wright of Screven, Ga.; brothers: Albert Griffis of Screven, Ga., Colvin Griffis of Screven, Ga.; grandchildren: Angie Jones, Benjy Jones, Kelly Daniels, Steve Daniels, Lee Daniels, Amy Gordon, Jill Sirmans, Lisa Chaney, Wes Carter, Cindy Nugent; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 from Rinehart and Sons Chapel with Rev. Mark Ledbetter and Rev. Wayne Williamson officiating. Interment will be in Old Bethel Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the Beatrice Ammons Sunday School Class members, the Ben Gibbs Chapter Order of Eastern Star members, the Golden Living Staff, Diane Thornton, Jean McLain, and the Old Bethel Baptist Church members.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 from the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Old Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 161 Old Bethel Church Road, Odum, Ga. 31555.
