Pearl Allen
Pearl Hundley Allen, 101, died Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born May 5, 1895, in Sandy River, Mrs. Allen was the daughter of John Thomas Hundley and Christian Ada Gravely Hundley.
On Aug. 3, 1927, she was married to James William Allen, who predeceased her on Feb. 9, 1941.
Mrs. Allen was a graduate of Averett College and was a school teacher. She was a
member of the Joseph Gravely Chapter of D.A.R., a member of the Virginia Garden Club and the Wednesday Club. Mrs. Allen was the oldest member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by one son, John W. Allen of Danville; three grandchildren, Susan Moore of Clayton, N.C., Jane Pretty of Danville and Gail Allen of Ringgold; and two great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Posie Hundley, and three sisters, Mrs. J.E. Richardson, Mrs. M.M. Coleman and Mrs. L.R. Wyatt Sr.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 1997, at Townes Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Eddie Davis will be conducting the service. Interment will follow at the Hundley family cemetery in Sandy River.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Townes Funeral Home. Other times the family will be at 505 Lansbury Drive.
