Clifton A. Allbright, judge of probate, and well known throughout Crow Wing county, where he has resided for many years, passed away suddenly about 3:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. He had been in ill health for nearly a year, but was somewhat improved and had been attending to his duties in connection with the judgeship for several months. On Wednesday afternoon he became ill while at his office, and was taken home where he died a short time later.
Judge Allbright was born September 2nd, 1872, in Iowa. He came to Minnesota when nine years of age, first living with his father on a farm near Mille Lacs. He came to Brainerd when 19 years old and entered the high school, from which he graduated. He is also a graduate of the college of law of the University of Minnesota, and has since been a practicing attorney in Brainerd.
Judge Allbright has always been prominent in politics. Casting his lot with the Republican party he has held responsible posts, among which are chairman of the Republican county committee, in which capacity he served for many years, and chairman of the Republican Sixth District congressional committee.
He was elected municipal judge, serving for one term. On the death of J. T. Sanborn, in September 1923, Mr. Allbright was appointed to complete the term as probate judge, which term would have expired January 1st.
Being an admirer of the late Senator Knute Nelson, Judge Allbright undertook the raising of a fund in Crow Wing County this fall, to assist in the Nelson memorial, a statewide movement.
Mr. Allbright was united in marriage on November 9th, 1910 to Miss Winnifred Smith. One child, Kathryn, was born to this union, who, with her mother, survives. One brother of the deceased, Arthur, is living in Iowa.
Mr. Allbright was prominently identified with the Elks lodge of Brainerd, of which he had been a member for many years. He is past exalted ruler of the local lodge and was trustee for a number of years. He also held membership in the Black Hawk club, being president of that organization the past year.
The funeral was held from the home, 507 Kingwood street, at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, Rev. N. P. Olmsted officiating. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery.
The bereaved family has the sincere sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement.
