Ann (Skogmo) Otteson, 83, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at her home.

She was born Feb. 7, 1917, in Marathon County, Wis., the daughter of Frank and Kathryn (Watchel) Hughes. In 1934, she graduated from high school in Chippewa Falls, Wis. She then worked as a waitress at the Skogmo Cafe in Chippewa Falls. Ann started working at the Skogmo Cafe in Fergus Falls in 1941, and became the manager in 1943.

On Aug. 12, 1946, she married Arnold Skogmo. The couple lived in Fergus Falls where they owned and operated the Skogmo Cafe for 18 years. Mr. Skogmo died on April 24, 1964. Mrs. Skogmo continued to operate the cafe for another two years until selling it in 1966. She then worked for O’Mearas Department Store for the next 11 years. In 1979, she married Elmer Otteson. Mr. Otteson died on June 16, 1982.

She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls. She was also a member of the Elks Club, Pebble Lake Golf Course, and volunteered at the Lake Region Hospital Gift Shop. She enjoyed the many wonderful gatherings at her home. She was an avid golfer and walker.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Arnold and Elmer; four sisters, Marie, Irene, Vigil, and Ethel; and two brothers, Harold and Henry.

Survivors include three sons, Tim Skogmo of Fergus Falls, Jerry (Mindy) Skogmo of Buffalo Grove, Ill., and Jeff (Marlys) Skogmo of Detroit Lakes; one step-daughter, Lynn (Bob) Adam of Arlington Heights, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Michael, Katy, Beth, Megan, Joe, and Jeffrey; two great-grandsons, Matthew and John Griffin; a sister, Margaret Janoski of McFarland, Wis.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Skogmo was known for her great kindness, compassion and generosity.

Visitation: Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a 5 p.m. public prayer service at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 1 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Fergus Falls
