Elvey graduated from Morgan Park High School in Chicago., IL. He went to the Univ. of IL. and Armour Institute of Technology ( school that his father attended ) where he studied Mechanical engineering until he was drafted in 1943. He was then sent to Pratt Institute of Technology in N.Y. City thru the service. In 1944 he was sent to LA. for maneuvers, then to Evansville, IN., then to NY. where he was sent overseas to England. On Dec. 25,1944 in France was his first day in front lines at The Battle of The Bulge. (Co. C, 291st Inf. Reg., 75th Inf. Div.) He was stationed in Reames, France. He spent 6 months on redeployment and was discharged Camp Grant, IL. on Jan.19, 1946. His rank was Sgt. He was with Rust Engineering in Birmingham, AL. from 1959-1984. He started as a tracer and when he retired he was a design engineer. In 1967 his family moved to Bremen, AL. and to Tuscaloosa, AL. in 1987. He was very diligent at everything he did. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, camping and computers. Whatever he started, he finished. He died of throat cancer in 1996. Written by his half-sister, Laura J. Stewart.
