US Congressman. He completed preparatory studies at private institutions, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1828 and commenced to practice law in Cumberland, Maryland. He was a member of the Maryland State House of Delegates, (1834-36). In 1845, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-ninth Congress, serving until 1847. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was a delegate to the Maryland State constitutional convention in 1867 and served as a associate judge of the sixth judicial district of Maryland, (1851-61, (1864-71), until his death at age 64.
