Martha "Mattie" was the daughter of William M Hamm and Mary Ann Fenn. Her paternal grandparents were James Lewis Hamm and Lucy Maxwell; her maternal grandparents were Lorenzo Dow Fenn and Elizabeth Butler.

Former Brookhaven Resident Dies
News has reached Brookhaven of the death of Mrs. Mattie Brewer, 77, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Hollihan, at Port Neches, Texas, on Wednesday, Feb. 8. Funeral services were held from the residence of her daughter in that city Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., Rev. W.H. Fortney officiating.
Mrs. Brewer had lived in Port Neches for a number of years, and had a large circle of friends there. She was born in Brookhaven, MS, Oct. 10, 1850, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Ham. She was twice married. Her first husband was W.H. Banks. Surviving the union is one daughter, Mrs. George Hollihan, with whom she made her home in Port Neches.
Her second marriage was to W.B. Brewer of Monticello, MS. Besides her daughter Mrs. Hollihan, she is survived by two brothers, T.J. Ham of Beaumont, W.A. Ham of Kinder, LA, and two sisters, Mrs. Laura McCracken of New Orleans and Mrs. Floyd Williams of Crowley, LA, ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brewer had lived in Port Neches for thirteen years and had been a member of the Baptist church the greater part of her life. She has many friends and relatives in Brookhaven and Lincoln Co. who deplore her passing.
