Ben N. Alford, 73, retired shoe salesman, died of a heart attack at 5:30 a.m. Thursday in his apartment in a local hotel. He had been in declining health for two and a half years, and had lived in this city for ten years. Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p. m. Friday in Oakwood Cemetery, Louisburg. N.C.
Mr. Alford, a native of Louisburg. N.C., was born March 2. 1884, a son of the late Lawrence S. and Susan Arrington Alford, pioneer citizens of Franklin and Nash Counties, N.C. He retired after 40 years as a wholesale shoe salesman and has lived in several states in the Southeast including 15 years in Jackson, Miss. He attended Spring Hope Academy, Spring Hope, N.C.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ben N. Alford of Florence, formerly Alta Samuels, of Jackson, Miss.; three sisters, Miss Margaret Alford of Rocky Mount, N.C., Mrs. J.E. Perry of Louisburg, N.C. and Mrs. Troy Pearce of Spring Hope, N.C.; three brothers, Clarence P. Alford of Henderson, N.C., L.S. Alford of Louisburg, N.C. and Dr. Frank Oliver Alford of Charlotte. N.C.
Waters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
