Henry Tuschen, son of Henry and Bernadina Tuschen, was born at Carroll, Iowa on June 29, 1883, and died on September 9, 1948 at the age of 65 years two months and 10 days.
He came to this community in childhood and as a young man commenced farming on his place southwest of town now occupied by his son, Clarence. On January 21, 1903 he was married to Anna Sabers at New Vienna, Iowa. They made their home on the Tuschen farm until he retired from active farming and moved into Salem in January, 1940.
Two years ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis, and although he recovered considerably from it's effects he had been in poor health since then.
During his residence in the country he was active in township and school district affairs and after the death of Anton Honrath he was appointed county commissioner from this district, an office he continued to hold until he resigned two years ago because of poor health.
He is survived by two sons, Clarence and Lawrence, both of this community; 11 grandchildren; one brother, Frank Tuschen of Spencer, SD; and 11 half-brothers and half-sisters, Mrs. Mary McLoughlin, William, Louis, Gertrude and Ed Althoff, all of Powell, Wyoming; A.H. Althoff, of Bridges, Montana; Peter and Leo Althoff, of Badger Basin, Wyoming; Mrs. L.C. Gillett of Powell, Wyoming; Charles Althoff of Pompey Pillar, Montana; Kate Althoff of Huntley, Montana.
