PORT ST. LUCIE - Elmer Edwin Bergman, 86, died Aug. 19, 2010, in Port St. Lucie. He was born in Harvey, Ill., and lived in Port St. Lucie since 1979, coming from Homewood, Ill.
Before retirement, he was a manufacturing engineer who was general foreman of Whiting Corp. in Harvey, and pioneered the use of machine language for CNC machines. He was a World War II veteran, serving in Europe. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Port St. Lucie and served on the board of trustees for many years.
Survivors include his daughters, Joan Cain of Mequon, Wis., and Karen Babcock of Chicago Heights, Ill.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 260 S.W. Prima Vista Blvd., Port St. Lucie, FL 34983.
Services will be private.
