US Congressman. A member of the Republican Party, he served New York's 33rd District in the US House of Representatives from 1973 until 1979. He attained his AB from St. Bonaventure College in 1934, and received his MA in Social Work from the Catholic University School of Social Work six years later. He served in the US Army during World War II, where he was a member of the Antitank Battalion in the Pacific Theater. Walsh was elected to and served as mayor of Syracuse, New York from 1961 until 1969. His son James Walsh served in the US Congress from 1989 until 2009.
