Wife of Harold V. TROUT (1914-2006)

Alice Susan HATCH was born on June 26, 1918 in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, the daughter of Timothy Cornelius HATCH (1872-1953) and Sarah Susan BORGER (1880-1974). Her father was a skilled master carpenter, and her mother was an ordained deaconess in the United Brethren of Christ, but had become a home maker after marrying Timothy. Alice's only sibling, Ralph LeRoy HATCH, was born in 1920 while the family was still living in Scott's Bluff and passed away in 1950. Alice also had two half-brothers, Carl and Clyde HATCH, both from her father's first marriage.

When Alice was about three years old, the family moved to Littleton, Colorado, where her father, Timothy, quickly established himself in the community as a skilled master carpenter and custom home builder. After first living briefly on Gallup Street and then near the Arapahoe County Fair Grounds, they moved in 1924 into the new home Timothy had built for his young family at 196 Greenwood Street.

On August 27, 1939, Alice married Harold V. TROUT (1914-2006) at the Methodist Church in Littleton, Arapahoe, Colorado. Three sons were born to this union, Vaughn LaRoy, 1942; Craig Harold, 1949, and Mark Timothy Trout, 1954.

Alice was very active in her church life, being raised as a Methodist, and then joining the Episcopal / Anglican Church, first at St. Timothy's in Littleton in about 1950, then transferring to St. Mary's in Denver in about 1953. Alice soon became a "Tertiary" (Third Order of St. Francis – "Franciscans") and was always very active in church affairs and faith-based activities. She was also an ardent supporter of "The Hospice of St. John" in Lakewood, Colorado.

After her sons had grown, Alice realized her lifelong dream and began a 25-year career as a Registered Nurse at Swedish Hospital in Denver, providing skilled and compassionate care to oncology and orthopedic patients until she retired in 1990.

Alice took great joy in her grandchildren and great grandchildren and their times together were always special to her beyond words. She also collected teddy bears, commemorative coins, bells, snow globes and various figurines, and also took special pleasure in several family heirlooms handed down to her through the generations. Very patriotic, and as a member of the DAR, she also took great joy in handing out miniature American flags to newly-minted American citizens at their swearing-in ceremonies.

Alice lost her loving husband of 66 years, Harold, on March 3, 2006, four years after he had suffered a debilitating stroke. Being a retired Registered Nurse, Alice provided Harold with devoted and loving home care until the end.

Alice Susan HATCH TROUT was a loving daughter, devoted wife, loving mother, active churchwoman and skilled nurse who devoted her entire life to her family, her faith, and to selflessly caring for others.

Alice was a kind and loving traditional Christian woman who lived her life well and feared God.
