James Agnew was probably born in Ohio, served in the Union Army and settled in New Albany, IN, where he married my great grandmother, Carrie Bybee. They had 6 children: Wm Robert, James Garfield (died as a baby), Frederick Louis, Alfred Edward, & twins Gertrude Myrtle and John Wesley. James was a painter & died from a fall off a ladder, where he was painting a house with one of his sons.
