Melvin R. Derhammer Sr.

Melvin R. Derhammer Sr., 62, of Kingston Township, passed away Tuesday evening, January 4, 2011, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Thomas and Alma Hettesheimer Derhammer.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Acernese Trucking for 22 years.

Melvin was an avid hunter and fisherman, and also enjoyed camping with his family.

Preceding him in death was his brother, John.

Surviving is his wife of 43 years, the former Sarah Emil; children, Mary Jo Deats, Loyalville; Melvin Jr. and his wife, Heidi, Glen Mawr; Steve and his wife, Laura, Kingston Township; John, Kingston; and Theresa Derhammer, Plains Township; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Laura Harned, Sweet Valley; Ruth Henderson, Nanticoke; and Florence Burt, Ashley; brothers, Charles, Sweet Valley; Joseph, Plymouth; and Teddy, Ashley; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Nulton Funeral home, Beaumont, Pa., with the Rev. Jeffrey Klansek, Chaplain for Hospice Care of the VNA, officiating.

Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
