Jacob was a farmer from the time of his marriage in 1849 until his death. in 1853 he was one of the organizers of Trinity Lutheran Church in Centre Hall. In 1860 he moved from his father's farm in Potter Twp. to the Coburn farm in Gregg Twp. which is where he died.
