Abigail was in south central Texas with her family and the Lyman Wight Mormon colony, when she met her future husband, James Ballantyne. They married on September 13, 1855, in Burnet, Texas. When the colony failed, James and Abigail moved north, settling at last in Monona County in western Iowa. While raising nine children, they prospered. Abigail died at 66 in 1906, 11 years after her husband's death.
