*****Jordache "Jordie" "The Bishop"*****
******July 1982 - 2 June 1988*******
Jordie got off to a rough start in life, becoming ill just after he came to live with us. Medication saved him, and he grew into a beautiful part-English budgie, though he did have recurrences of his illness from time to time. He liked humans, and he liked budgie toys, especially mirrors. He seemed very content, but without a doubt, the happiest day of his life was 9 May, 1987, the day that Dietmar entered our lives. After new budgie quarantine, Diet (pronounced "deet")and Jordie became constant companions.
Jordie acquired the nickname "Bishop" because of a regal pose he was in the habit of taking. It reminded someone of a bishop acquaintance. Jordie soon learned to say "Bish-hop". His favorite thing to say was "Jordie, Jordie."
His last illness dragged on for several weeks but he just couldn't overcome it this time. Dietmar was left an only bird for a (brief) time.
********Dietmar T. Budgerigar*******
********Unknown- 5 February 1992****
A neighbor brought a tail-less Dietmar to our door in a fishing net. We had to cut him out. When put into a cage, he went directly to the seedcup and started eating. He never looked back. He was home and he knew it. An attempt was found to reunite this "lost bird" with his owners, but no one claimed him despite the ads.
He adored his "big brother" Jordie and tried to copy everything he did. He liked to "bink" (pink, as in pinking shears) paper and we nicknamed him "The Binkmonster".
Dietmar appeared to be a young bird, but he was past his first moult and could have been older than he appeared. He was tame from the beginning, and I think he may have had an owner who gave him attention. He was funny and lovable.
Dietmar failed suddenly & rapidly after he had lived with us for 5 years. He may have had heart trouble; he died in his sleep.
Both of these funny little characters are still missed.
