Georgia L. "Plunk" Bates, age 101 of Albion, passed away Monday, January 3, 2011 at Magnum Health of Albion. She was born April 6, 1909 in Molino, Florida to Solomon and Katie (Ewing) Union. She was first married to Thomas Brown who preceded her in death then she married Sallie M. Bates who preceded her in death in 1993.

Georgia worked for the Albion Malleable during WWII then she was a cook at Albion College for 21 years. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Albion, a volunteer at the Albion Senior Center, Den Mother for Cub Scouts Troop #181 and member of the Court of Calanthy.

Georgia is survived by: Son, Emery (Irene) Bates of Albion; daughter, Ernestine Saunders of Albion; two goddaughters, Essie Curtis of Albion,and Elizabeth Deloney of Flint; (25) grandchildren; special grandchildren, including Rev. & Mrs. Fred Alexander; special pet dog, "Neeno"; numerous great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Emmagene White; a son, Stanley Brown; sister's Effie Harris and Ulah Billingsby, and a brother, Willie Union.

Funeral Service will be noon on Saturday, January 8 at Bethel Baptist Church, 523 Washington Street, Albion, with Rev. Fred Alexander officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Albion. Family Hour will be held one hour prior to service at the church.
