Thomaston, Maine - Norma E. Staples, 90, a resident of Lawrence Ave, Thomaston, died at her residence after a long period of failing health. Norma was born in South Thomaston, the daughter of Fred and Florence Rackliff Monroe.

She graduated from Rockland High School and thereafter completed beauty school and worked as a beautician in the local area before joining the U.S. Navy during WWII. She went through basic training in Milledgeville, Georgia and was then stationed in New York City.

Upon her discharge, she returned to the area and married Ormond Staples April 5, 1946 in Camden. In 1950, they purchased their home on Lawrence Ave, where she made their home and raised their three daughters.

Norma was an active member of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Thomaston, serving in all areas of church life, and is especially remembered for her service on the alter guild and creating beautiful flower arrangements.

She also enjoyed attending and maintaining contacts with her Navy Friends throughout the years.

She is predeceased by her husband Ormond, brothers John Monroe and Richard Monroe, and her sisters Mable Batty and Dora Ring. Survivors include her daughters: Roberta Staples of Highland, NY; Donna Karmen and her husband Edward of Walpole, NH; Barbara Jones and her husband Mark of Kuranda, Queensland, Australia; two grandchildren, Chris Amato of New York City; Kathryn Amato of Highland, NY and London, England; many wonderful nieces and nephews whom she loved to see at the summer family reunions at Monroe Beach.

Rev. Peter Jenks officiated.

Interment with military honors will follow in the Village Cemetery in Thomaston.
