Vigil services will be held at 7 tonight in the chapel of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary for Theodore R. Arnold, 65, of Santa Maria who died Thursday at his residence of natural causes. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Msgr. James Colberg will officiate. Burial will follow in the Santa Maria Cemetery.
Mr. Arnold was born in Lebanon, Pa., and had lived in Santa Maria since 1973. He was a former resident of Huntington Beach. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on a destroyer in the South Pacific. He retired in 1988 from AT&T as a guidance and radar engineer, after 33 years with the company, the last 16 at Vandenberg Air Force Base. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 56 and the Santa Maria Valley Senior Citizens, where he was active in baseball and the horseshoe club. He was an avid fisherman and beachcomber.
Survivors include his widow, Phyllis A. Arnold, and daughter, Robin A. Brickey, both of Santa Maria; sons, Stephen M. Arnold, Santa Maria, and SSgt. Jeffrey P. Arnold, Camp Pendleton; one grandson.
Friends may visit from 1 to 8 tonight at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary.
