The son of Thomas Stricklin and Mary Ann Strain. He was united in marriage to Nancy Caroline Daniel on July 5, 1848. He was an educated man. His occupations were farmer, county commissioner and Justice of the Peace. His religion was Cumberland Presbyterian. He donated the land for the Pinhook-Lutts Cemetery from his farm. His son, Jim, was the first person buried there. He escaped conscript during the Civil War, by hiding out. He and his family were devout church-goers.
