MUSTER, Helen
Graveside services for Helen Muster, 85, of Thompson Falls, were conducted Saturday at 11 a.m., March 18, at Murray Memorial Cemetery in Lonepine. Memorial services followed at 1 p.m. Community Congregational church in Thompson Falls with the Rev. Gaylund Olson officiating.
Mrs. Muster died of natural causes Wednesday, March 15, 1995, at Hot Springs Convalescent Center.
She was born April 14, 1909, at Morris, Minn., one of 12 children born to Alfred and Anna Cluzen. Her siblings included three sets of twins.
In 1910, Helen moved with her family to Lonepine, Mont., in a covered wagon. There her parents and her uncle established two homesteads. She attended school for eight years at Lonepine and then attended High School at Thompson Falls, where she was the captain of the girls basketball team. After graduating in 1927, Helen attended Montana State Normal School at Dillon (now Western Montana College of the University of Montana) to earn a teaching credential. She began teaching in eastern Montana at age 18, and later taught at Belknap, Perma and at the Ayer School on Swamp Creek near Trout Creek.
In 1933, she and Ed Muster met and were married. The couple owned and operated the Tuscor Store and the Tuscor (Mont.) Post Office. They also ranched at Tuscor until moving to Thompson Falls in 1948. Ed preceded her in death in 1982, and she continued to live in Thompson Falls until becoming a resident of Hot Springs Convalescent Center in 1991.
Helen was a longtime member of the Community Congregational Church of Thompson Falls. She was a life member of the Thompson Falls Senior Citizens as well as an active member of the Thompson Falls Homemakers and the Thompson Falls Grange. She was a Cub Scout leader when her son, John was a Cub Scout. She loved to work with arts and crafts.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John and Sandra Muster, Thompson Falls; a sister, Ida Meadows, Polson; three grandsons, Judd Wood, Thompson Falls; Walter Gilroy, Denver, Colo.; and Elk Raven Gilroy, Homer, Alaska; nieces, Frances Pierson, Florence, Mont.; Mavis Dowlan, Butte; Bernice Goode, Ronan; Frances Snyder, Eureka; Sharon Fike and Marlene Muster, both of Spokane, Wash.; and Betty Minemyer, Helena; nephews, Jack Culligan, Spokane; Jim Culligan, Los Alamos, N.M.; Bob Cluzen, Noxon; Ross Cluzen, Seattle, Wash.; Norman Mogus, Ronan; Keith Ross, Polson; Kenny Ross, Ronan; Bob Ross, Seattle, Wash.; Don Ross, Peace River, Canada; and Jim Ross, Castle Rock, Wash.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters.
Coffelt-Bunch Funeral Service of Thompson Falls was in charge of arrangements.
