Ellen was born May 13, 1847 in Crittenden Co, KY. The daughter of Uriah Gilliland Witherspoon and Susan Johnson-Witherspoon. She was one of several children. She and Zachariah Taylor Terry were married on March 30 1871 at Crittenden Co, KY. They were the parents of 6 children.
At the aage of 20 she joined the Presbyterian Church at Marion. She was a devout Christian and loyal to her Church.
Her sister Annie maried Zachariah's brother William T.Terry.
Her funeral service was at the Hurricane Church. Many friends gathered to pay their last respects for their departed friend. She is buried in Hurricane cemetery, her husband Z. T. is buried beside her.
