George A. Bancroft, 87, of Birmingham, Mich., formerly of Mishawaka, died at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, in his home after a brief illness. He was born in Osceola on March 30, 1885 and was married to Hazel Zellner in Mishawaka. She survives, along with two sons, Robert Z. Bancroft of White Bear Lake, Minn., and William G. Bancroft of Bay Village, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Richard M. Steele, with whom he resided, six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
He graduated in 1909 from Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind., with a major in Industrial Engineering, and was employed as a consultant industrial engineer by the Bendix Corp. He was also self-employed in Mishawaka as a heating and air-conditioning engineer. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Bancroft St. in Osceola was named in his honor.
