DEATH OF MR. BEECHER

The history of the town of Livonia could not be written with any accuracy without devoting a large part of its space to the life and work of John S. Beecher, and his death, which occurred at an early hour Monday morning, removes a man of prominence and character. Mr. Beecher was born in the town of Livonia April 7, 1826, and all his life had been passed here. He was the son of Hezekiah and Nancy Beecher, pioneer settlers who came here from Connecticut. In September, 1861, he was united in marriage to Sarah Wilson of Clarendon, Vt., who survives him. Last fall they celebrated their golden wedding. Two children were born to them, Lewis H. and Miss Martha. Mr. Beecher was 85 years old, and in speaking of him last week the Gazette made the statement that he had never been seriously ill before. He had always been an active man, and for fifteen years held the office of secretary of the county insurance association, and performed the arduous duties in a most conscientious manner. For more than half a century, he had been an active member of the Livonia Presbyterian church, from which services were held Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Mr. Larrabee officiating. We cannot bring this article to a close without reference to the high standing of Mr. Beecher in this community and wherever he was known, and the Gazette wishes to pay its respects to the memory of this man of great personal worth.
