Dr. Kenneth L. Oppel, 45, Depauw, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at Norton Hospital in Louisville.
Born Jan. 31, 1965, in Corydon, he was the son of Beatrice L. Smith Oppel and the late Forrest L. (Buck) Oppel.
He earned a Bachelor of Science, master's degree and principal's license from Indiana University, a superintendent's license from Indiana State University and a doctorate in education from Spalding University, was the assistant superintendent of North Harrison Community School Corp. and a member of Ramsey Lions Club, Harrison County Board of Health, Indiana High School Athletic Association, Indiana Professional Association of School Superintendents and Unity Chapel United Methodist Church near Ramsey.
Survivors besides his mother include his wife, the former Chrissy D. Crawford; a son, Christopher Keith Oppel; a daughter, Madison Caroline Oppel; and a brother, Gregg Oppel.
Visitation: Sunday, Jan. 2, from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, Jan. 3, from 1 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 4, from 1 to 5:30 p.m. at Unity Chapel United Methodist Church south of Ramsey.
Celebration of life: Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 6 p.m. in the North Harrison High School gymnasium in Ramsey with private burial in Wood's Chapel Cemetery at Ramsey.
Arrangements: Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society or the WHAS Crusade for Children.
