When Joe and Lora married, Tobe gave them a small farm near him. Here their three children were born. After Lora's death Joe married Nora Cartwright, born October 8, 1895. They moved to Russell, Texas. Here their four children were born. In 1924, Joseph Marion was shot after an altercation. His wife and small children moved to Freestone, Texas, where the children finished their education

Former Citizen of Freestone County Killed
Joe Black, formerly of Dew, was shot and killed in Oakwood Tuesday evening. Kenlock Lane surrendered to local officers. Both parties are residents of Oakwood. We did not learn the cause of difficulty.
Mr. Black leaves a wife and several small children, also a brother, Ben Black, a prominent citizen of Dew, and several sisters, all residents of Freestone County.
