Earl was a life long Ham radio operater, and Radio Officer on the molasses tanker "Comol Cuba" before WWII. He served as Sargent in the US Army in WWII as an instructor at Drew Feild near Tampa, FL and with the 35th Fighter Control Squadron in New Guinea and Luzon, Philippines.

Earl earned his EE degree at the Universty of Cincinnati in 1952 and worked in the electronics industry in both Iowa and Arizona most of his life. His last 9 years were spent near his niece Patricia Crawfis White in Houston, TX.
