John Cowan was the son of Arthur Mathew Walker and Anna S. McPherson Walker, and the husband of Johanna Clotilde Kerner. He was the father of: Luitelle Anna, Isabelle Theresa, John Rupert, and Gladys Antonia Walker. He was originally buried at Boot Hill Cemetery (possibly in Portland) and reinterred in Gunnison Cemetery on August 21, 1921, along side his grandson, James Wesley Sullivan.
