Civil War Union Army Officer. Enlisted as a 1st Sergeant in Company F, 26th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on September 3, 1862. Participated in the Battles of Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company F on May 27, 1863 to replace Lieutenant William R. taylor, who had been also advanced one rank. Mustered out with his regiment on June 27, 1863.
