Smokey Parker, 80 of Coldwater died Friday, December 31, 2010 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility. Smokey was born July 25, 1930 in Coldwater, Michigan to Ersal and Inez (Bidwell) Parker. He married Barbara Jean Parks on January 14, 1956 in Coldwater, MI she preceded in death Dec. 28, 2010.
Smokey graduated from Coldwater High School. He was a Corporal in the US Army where he was a cook in Alaska from January 1951 to December 1952. He enjoyed making and giving away thousands of homemade tops in his retirement years, which gave him the nickname of "Spinner Man".
Smokey worked at Federal Mogul and retired from the Branch County Equalization Department. He was a member of the American Legion Drill Team, enjoyed roller skating and ice skating. Survivors include Daughter: Kim (Skip) Shook of Coldwater; Son: Chris (Leigh) Parker of Quincy, MI; Grandchildren: Matt (Jodi) Shook, Jessica Shook, Jami (Eric) Cole, Michael Parker, Alison (Dustin) Smith; Step Grandson: Joshua (Theresa) Truex; 10 Great Grandchildren; Brothers Marvin Parker, Theo Parker and sister Sherry Crow all of Coldwater. Preceded in death by his wife, sisters Wanda Byers, Valda Hankins and 2 infant sisters. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the Gillespie Funeral Home, Coldwater with Pastor Dave Brown, officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bronson, MI. Visitation will be held 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4th until time of service at the funeral home. Memorial may be made to a charity of ones choice. Miliatary honors by American legion Post 52 Drill Team.
