Died During North Russia Expedition of 1918-1919. "On 29 November 1918 a platoon from Co. C, 339th Inf, commanded by Lt. Francis Cuff, was ambushed while on patrol outside the village of Ust Paadenga by a large force of Bolsheviks. aLt Cuff and five soldiers were killed in the desperate rearguard fight with several more wounded and four captured.
