Jane Scarlett Canady Lee

Various sources, and documentation indicate Jane Scarlett was a daughter of William Canady, and Mary Ann Brandon Canady. It also suggests that her birthplace as Elizabethtown (now Hagerstown), Maryland.

She married Samuel Lee in 1814, York County, South Carolina. This was the first of three documented marriages for Samuel Lee.

The 1850 U.S. Census, Henry County, Georgia; dated 05 November, documents Jane Lee (as J. Lee) with her husband Samuel (as S. Lee), indicating she is 65 years of age, and born in Virginia.
The census suggests that Jane passed away sometime after the enumeration date of the 1850 Census, and 31 December 1850.

Historical note: Hagerstown was originally known as Elizabethtown. Named after founder Jonathan Hager's wife, Elizabeth Kershner Hager. The City Council officially changed the community's name from Elizabethtown to Hagerstown in 1813 because the name had gained popular usage, and in 1814, the Maryland State Legislature officially endorsed the changing of the town's name.
