Adeline Jane, who went by Jane all her life, was born in Caroline Township, Tompkins County, New York, on November 2, 1834. Her parents were Richard Walker Middaugh and Angeline Burlingame Smith. She married James Wendel Landon on February 17, 1853, probably in Tompkins County. Jane's parents moved to Wisconsin in 1854, and on to Steele County, Minnesota in 1862. Its possible that James and Jane moved with them. The Landons had at least six children.
