Rosa Lou Gilchrist, 74, of Avant, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010 at her Avant residence. Rosa Lou was born Feb. 4, 1936 in Skiatook, to William Ogan and Opal (Buchanan) Reddell.

She grew up and received her education in Ramona and Sublette, Kans., graduating from high school there in 1953.

She married Robert Gilchrist on Dec. 31, 1953 in Clovis, N.M. and they made their home in Sublette, Kans., until moving to Avant in 1994 where they made their home since that time.

Rosa Lou had been employed as a school cook and had also worked in a grocery store and butcher shop in Sublette, Kans. She was a member of Avant Methodist Church.

Rosa Lou was preceded in death by her mother and father and by one son.

She is survived by her husband, Robert of the home; one son, Robby of the home; two sisters, Ruby and Sandy; two brothers, Billy and Bobby; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Music for the services was "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art.

Funeral services for Rosa Lou Gilchrist were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 at the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Earleen Reedy officiating. Interment followed in Osage Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Sien-Shelton Funeral Home.
